BLOOMINGTON, MN β A 30-something Bloomington man, previously convicted of stalking and violating a protective order, is back behind bars. Suleyman Abdulkadir Said Shire, 36, has been charged with felony domestic assault after allegedly attacking his ex-girlfriend on July 10, 2026. Because Shire has multiple domestic violence-related convictions within the past decade, his new charge has been elevated to a felony, putting his recently stayed 18-month prison sentence in jeopardy.
The Soccer Match Assault
According to the criminal complaint, Bloomington police responded to a domestic disturbance call placed by the victim’s mother, who reported her daughter was being threatened by her ex-boyfriend, “Suley.”
The victim met officers across the street and explained that while their romantic relationship had ended years prior, they remained close friends. Shire stayed at her home about two days a week, parked his vehicle there, and used her address on his driver’s license.
On the evening of the incident, the two were watching a soccer match when Shire, who had been drinking, began aggressively questioning her about a movie she had watched during a period they were separated. When she could not recall the title, Shire allegedly snapped, telling her, “You have 10 seconds,” and began a countdown. When the countdown ended, Shire struck her on the right side of her head with an open hand, leaving visible redness on her right ear.
The victim fled to a neighbor’s house in tears while Shire continuously called her phone. Officers arrested him at the scene.
A History of Severe Domestic Abuse
This arrest comes just months after Shire resolved another violent domestic case involving the same victim. On October 6, 2024, police responded to the victimβs apartment. Shire had forced his way inside while intoxicated, violating an active Domestic Abuse No Contact Order (DANCO).
Once inside, Shire pinned the victim against kitchen cabinets and choked her with both hands until she could not breathe. After telling her to remain quiet, he stated, “I’m going to kill you,” and strangled her a second time. He then retrieved a large kitchen knife wrapped in a potholder and stood close to her, repeating his threats to end her life. The victim managed to escape to her mother’s waiting car outside.
Prior Plea Deal and Stayed Sentence
Following that 2024 incident, Shire was charged with multiple heavy offenses, including burglary, stalking, strangulation, and terroristic threats. Under a January 2025 plea agreement, he pleaded guilty to felony stalking and gross misdemeanor violation of a DANCO, while the remaining charges were dismissed.
On March 3, 2025, a Hennepin County judge sentenced Shire to 18 months in prison but stayed the execution for three years, placing him on supervised probation with strict conditions, including:
-
Absolute prohibition of alcohol and non-prescribed drugs (subject to random testing).
-
Maintaining zero contact with the victim and staying away from her home.
-
Completion of a domestic abuse intervention program.
Probation and Legal Consequences
Even before this latest arrest, probation officials had initiated violation proceedings against Shire in June 2026. He is scheduled for a probation violation hearing on September 24, 2026.
The new felony domestic assault case, filed on July 13, 2026, cites his March 2025 stalking and DANCO convictions, as well as a 2023 conviction for threats of violence, as the qualifying prior offenses to enhance the new charge. Shire made his first court appearance on July 14, 2026, with conditional bail set at $40,000. If found in violation of his probation, he could be ordered to serve his previously stayed 18-month prison sentence.
